THE Perfect Regimen for Kinky Hair + TOP 10 TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF 4C HAIR

THE Perfect Regimen for Kinky Hair + TOP 10 TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF 4C HAIR
The past two weeks in Beauty School have been dedicated to how to take care of 4c hair. We’ve narrowed it down to the ten top tips that you should always keep in mind when doing your hair, as well as the perfect regimen, so let’s go!

TOP TEN TIPS

1. It’s super important to keep your hair and scalp clean–it helps to maintain health and encourage growth. Since 4c hair tends to be quite dry and prone to breakage, try co-washing each week with a cleansing conditioner. This will keep your hair clean while maintaining moisture. It’s the perfect solution!
2. While co-washing on a weekly basis is great, it’s still important to clarify your hair every so often. Clarifying, or deep cleaning, gets rid of product build up (getting rid of this build up will help products perform better) and gives your hair and scalp a nice detox. Once a month go in with a shampoo to cleanse your hair.
3. Each week, whether you’re clarifying or co-washing, there’s one thing you MUST do…deep condition! This is the key to healthy, nourished hair. Deep conditioning imparts moisture and nutrients to your hair, and if you want these results to last, consistency is key. Deep condition every week and watch how your hair transforms.
4. Every now and then add protein to your hair with a strengthening treatment, like Chebe Powder Growth Hair Mask from #DearBlackGirl. This restores the elasticity and structure of the hair, and keeps it strong. Try a strengthening treatment every 4-6 weeks to maintain strong, healthy hair.
5. There’s a difference between hydrating and moisturizing the hair, and you need to do both! Hydration happens when the hair is fully saturated with water for an amount of time so that the water can fully penetrate the hair. This usually happens on wash day. Moisturizing is what you do in between hydration days to maintain the hair. Think: spraying the hair water and sealing with an oil or cream, for example. Always remember: both of these processes, done on a regular basis, are necessary for healthy hair.
6. Finding the right products and processes for your hair comes down to understanding how your hair absorbs moisture–its porosity level. Once you determine this, it’s easy sailing.
7. At first, thinking of ways to style your 4c hair can seem really difficult, but there are tons of cute things you can do with it! Try new things and techniques, and see what works best for you and your hair. This requires patience, and that’s possibly the biggest tip for naturalistas in general. Patience is key. It’s work, but so worth it. So take your time, no need to rush.
8. Since 4c hair is quite delicate and prone to breakage, low manipulation and protective styles are your best friends! When doing these styles, though, be sure to loosen your grip. We love a tight, neat, hairstyle, but you don’t want to sacrifice the health of your scalp to achieve a cute ‘do. Lots of tension on the scalp and edges can lead to hair loss, and we don’t want that!
9. Try to refrain from doing your edges every single day. That constant manipulation and application of the product can be tough on your delicate hairline. When you do style your edges, try applying an oil before your edge control, this helps keep your edges nourished and thick.
10. Next time you’re styling your hair, try to section it into more than four equal parts. Four sections, especially when your hair is thick and/or long, can cause tension at the center of your scalp. Trust me, I used to do this all the time and my scalp was always sore, and the hair at my crown was always breaking. Once I switched it up and put my hair into six or eight sections, I noticed a drastic improvement!

  1. I disregarded my hair and skin, 2016-17 and 18.
My husband and I lived in the Bahamas for 14 years. Used No hat or hair scarf those last years.
Hair was naturally turning grey, but needed more protection and moisture.
I am slightly on the mends…t..but need a real strict program.t..
    I have 4C hair.
