Guiding WOC Through The Process Of Returning Natural

The Belle Bar Organic Hair Ritual #5 – During The Week Nightly Maintenance

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Moisturizing and sealing should happen every other night or every three days. Start off with every other night the first week and if you feel your hair has product build-up, scale back to every three nights. Follow the directions below depending on your plan for moisture.

LOW POROSITIES NEED TO WARM THEIR “LIQUIDS” BEFORE USE. Put the bottle your liquid is in, inside a cup or bowl of hot water to warm the liquid inside of your bottle. You need to open up your cuticle to get the other products inside of your hair cuticle so moisture actually gets inside. This is very important!

NIGHTTIME STYLING

All that tossing and turning really does put a lot of pressure on our hair. The delicate nature of curly hair makes it naturally more prone to breakage, splitting, and frizz, and rubbing our heads against a pillow for 8 hours doesn’t really help! This is why nighttime styling is so important for maintaining healthy curls. Here are some popular styles you can try!

Pineapple: this is such a good overnight style for maintaining type 3 curls and stretching type 4’s! All you have to do is gather all of your hair to the front of your head, and tie it into a loose ponytail. It keeps your hair out of your face and the majority of your curls intact overnight!

Plop: if you go to bed with your hair wet, you should try plopping to protect it from flattening the curls and creating breakage. It’s also a great drying technique to prevent gravity from weighing down your curls. Apply products to your hair as usual, and finish with gel to create hold. Lay a microfiber towel or a cotton t-shirt on a flat surface, flip your hair over, and let it pile on top of itself into the fabric. Then, tie the sides of towel at the front of your head, making sure it’s secure. This cuts drying time in half, plus it keeps your curls safe overnight!

Two Strand Twists: a super easy nighttime style that works really well on kinkier curl types, and requires very little effort, especially if braiding is intimidating to you! It can be done on damp or dry hair, but the curls become more defined if it’s done on damp hair. Simply part your hair down the middle and on each side, take two small sections and wrap them around each other from root to ends. Tie the ends and wrap your hair in a satin bonnet.

Bantu Knots: a classic low manipulation style that works really well on kinkier curls types. Start by sectioning off small sections of hair, then wrap the sections into small buns making sure that the ends are completely tucked in. This style is excellent for stretching the hair, and it can be done on damp or dry hair.

Braids: the ultimate nighttime style, for all curly types, wet or dry. The best part is that you can do as little or as many braids as you want, depending on how loose or tight you want your curls. Braid outs work really well on damp hair but always leave them in for at least a day before taking them out — the little pockets of hair can stay damp for a long time. No matter how you choose to braid your hair, your curls are sure to look bomb!
