At Belle Bar Organic, we like to explore different ways to create your very own natural beauty products at home. We want everyone to feel welcome in our community, regardless of finances. This post was created so that all of us can participate in this green beauty movement and take back control of what we are putting in our bodies, on our bodies, and in our environment.
Let’s kick things off with an all natural hair growth oil! Scalp massages and oils work to stimulate healthy hair and major
growth, and infusing your oil with essential oils
is absolutely amazing for the hair. Essential oils work to stimulate the follicles in the scalp and encourage healthy growth. The cool thing is, hair growth oils are so simple to make at home, and you can use things you probably already have! Here’s a super easy, cost-effective way to make your own growth oil and see results.
HOW TO MAKE IT
Here’s what you’ll need:
Extra Virgin Olive oil: super moisturizing
Organic, Unrefined, Cold Pressed Coconut oil: antibacterial and increases thickness
Jamaican Black Castor oil: helps thicken hair and encourage growth
Peppermint essential oil: stimulates hair growth
Rosemary essential oil: also great for growth
(by the way, community member Stephanie Rice gave some great tips
on how to buy essential oils!)
Applicator bottle for use
Now, I use all of the ingredients listed above, but if you’re short on cash, stick to whatever you have or can get your hands on. Even combining, say, two of these ingredients will have beneficial effects on your hair. Use this recipe as a blueprint or inspiration, customize it however you want!
I make and use my oil in an 8 oz applicator bottle, adding more oils whenever I see it getting low. I eyeball the quantities of each ingredient, making sure to fill the bottle all the way up. Since all of these ingredients are nourishing and healthy, I’m not too picky with exact measurements, though generally, I try to use equal parts carrier oils (olive, coconut and castor oil) and 10 drops of each essential oil. Simply pour each oil into the bottle, shake until everything is mixed together. Voila! So quick, so easy.
HOW TO USE
The beauty of this recipe is that it can be used in multiple ways. A few times a week, I apply it all over my scalp and give myself a five minute (minimum) massage. It feels so good and it works to stimulate and nourish the hair follicles, encouraging hair growth.
I also use this oil to seal my ends when doing a protective or low manipulation style. Every wash day I do 8 braids and I use this oil recipe to seal my ends, and sometimes throughout my hair. During the week when moisturizing my braids, I add a little extra oil to make sure they stay nice and healthy.
Sometimes, when I’m feeling fancy, I use this oil as a pre-poo to detangle my hair before washing. I usually just use coconut oil, but this recipe packs a bit more of a punch. The night before wash day I section my hair, apply this oil, and detangle. I let it stay in overnight and when I go to wash my hair the next day, it’s super moisturized and the shampoo doesn’t feel nearly as stripping.
When it comes to natural beauty, you can use quality ingredients at a low price, most of which you already have in your kitchen! Having healthy skin and hair doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
