Creating a 360 wellness practise

With everything going on right now, it’s important that we’re taking care of ourselves and checking in on ourselves. Paying attention to our mental health, physical health and emotional healing are just a few of the things that can help us remain clear-minded, strong and powerful even in the face of adversity. This is where  360 wellness practise comes into play.

We’re advocates for health in body, soul and mind, and we believe it should be a priority for all women to not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful in every way possible too.

That’s the foundation for building a 360 wellness practise – it’s not just about what you put on your hair and skin, but how you treat your body overall, your mind, your emotions, and your soul (ie knowing who you are and exploring that!). 

What is a wellness practice?

A personal wellness practice is a set of rules, guidelines and goals you set for yourself in order to achieve maximum wellness in varying aspects of your life. It’s often multidimensional – encompassing everything from physical wellness to emotional wellness. It’s important that your wellness practise suits you and caters to your specific needs – not those of others, or things you think you should be doing.

How do I create my own wellness practice? 

There are several steps you should take to create the ultimate personal 360 wellness practise. 

First, define the areas you want to work on

To create an effective, personal wellness practise, you first have to identify the exact areas you want to work on. What aspects of your life could you be better at? What areas have more room for improvement and incorporating more natural, Ayurvedic practises? This might require to sit down and deeply consider, as well as write down what you notice. There are many different aspects to consider when building your wellness practise, but don’t feel the pressure to include them all. Set yourself up for success by honing in on the parts you believe need immediate action. 

Here are the aspects to consider for your wellness practise:

Second, examine what you’re already doing

Now, based on the aspects you’ve chosen to build a practise for, examine what stage you’re currently at with each of them individually. What are the gaps? What are you getting right at the moment? What can be amplified, dismissed or improved? These are all questions to ask yourself and make sure to jot down your responses. Knowing exactly where you are with each part will only help you define clearer goals and set you up for success.   

Next, set goals and habits

When you’ve properly examined each part of your wellness practise, it’s time to set your goals! Now – be realistic. Building a good wellness practise is all about creating habits that in turn become a part of your life – so go with simple, practical goals that you can do daily, weekly or even monthly. And remember to start small. Setting a time frame for your goals is awesome as it helps you see a clear finish line and can be quite motivating. For example, if your goal is to start practising yoga – set a simple goal to do yoga once a week for only four weeks. That way, you’re more likely to get it done and build a habit out of it.

Be consistent and build a routine

This is one of the most difficult parts when carrying out a wellness practise. Trust us, we know how hard it can be – especially when life gets in the way. But just as you’ve built a great regimen with your hair that you tick to – you can definitely do this too with other aspects of your life. 

Record your achievements and celebrate your successes

Writing down your goals and being able to go back and track your success is a great way to build your confidence and stamina to continue and develop your wellness practice. It’s great motivation! Also, don’t be afraid to celebrate your achievements. It’s worth it!

Spread the love 

Taking care of yourself is essential, as only then are we able to show up in all our glory for our communities. So when building your wellness practise, although you’re ultimately doing it for you (you deserve it sis!), be sure to also think about the people around you and how your well-being positively impacts them. 

As black women, many of us feel the burden of taking care of everyone else and the people around us, without making enough time for ourselves and putting ourselves first. But remember, your wellness is a beautiful responsibility and gift to those around you. You being your best has a ripple effect of joy – and we love to see it! If you can set up a small monthly donation to a charity, go ahead and do it, or if you can volunteer time in your community (by safely social distancing of course!), then go ahead. Doing good and spreading love will only enhance your well-being, while positively impacting the people around you. It’s a win-win.
