How many of us look up to our favorite celebrity for fashion and makeup inkpot? *bows down to Tracee Ellis Ross* Chances are, your favorite famous person can put on just about any outfit and look bomb. But have you ever wondered what the rich and famous use to battle acne? Like how does Rihanna manage to make her skin look so flawless? Is it hard for you to believe that some of your favorite celebs actually get acne? Don’t be so surprised! They’re people, too! Here are some of our favorite celebs’ best treatments for acne. Spoiler alert: they’re all natural!
The R&B stunner is a poster child for perfect skin, and perfect everything tbh. She told Into The Gloss some of her skin struggles, including how she used to put toothpaste on her pimples to make them go away. Yikes. Please don’t do this y’all!
A few months back on Instagram, she revealed the secrets to her damn near perfect complexion and, to our surprise, she relies on quite a few natural remedies to keep her hormonal acne at bay. Collagen pills, which are great for anti-aging purposes, help keep the skin plump and youthful. She also swears by alkaline water, a super-balanced type of water that has a pH of 8 or 9. Alkaline water is said to provide the body with super pure hydration, plus an overall balancing effect for your whole body. It’s excellent for neutralizing the acid in your body and keeping the skin clear and balanced. She also drinks apple cider vinegar, another pH balancer that works just as good inside as it does outside. Jhene revealed that she used to suffer from cystic acne due to an ovarian cyst. The solution? Birth control! Although it’s not natural, birth control has been found to help relieve painful hormonal breakouts and keep the skin clear throughout the menstrual cycle, too!
The star of Grown-ish (and an absolute hair goddess!!) shared her secret for maintaining her flawless skin: cardamom! Yara prefers to drink hers– Persian tea, specifically–because she believes good skin starts from the inside! She’s not wrong.
Cardamom is a powerful spice with a range of benefits from fighting asthma, to treating skin allergies. Cardamom contains vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that brightens the skin and increases blood flow. You can use cardamom oil to fade acne scars and hyperpigmentation. It’s anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant. It’s also excellent for healthy hair!
Did you know this triple threat/bonafide fashion icon suffers from body acne?? If you’ve ever dealt with bacne/chest acne, you know how much of a burden it can be. Her solution for dealing with it? Don’t touch it! Seriously, don’t. If you’re wondering how she gets her skin to be so dewy and flawless, she swears by an all-natural approach. Her go to’s are African black soap, rose water, witch hazel, vitamin E oil, and tea tree oil. Rose water is soothing, calming, and hydrating — all the components of a bomb skin care product IMO! Witch hazel has been a staple in skin care routine for decades and for good reason. This balancing astringent uses the power of the witch hazel plant to tone, depuff, and shrink pores. Vitamin E oil is deeply moisturizing and has anti-aging benefits, while tea tree oil is a powerful spot treatment for your most stubborn pimples. Zendaya’s skin care routine is pretty much guaranteed to deliver your softest, dewiest, and most balanced skin ever. *Runs to beauty supply*
Another songbird that suffers from cystic acne! We love SZA’s all natural approach to her skincare as much as we love her music. She swears by black soap, hemp oil, and manuka honey masks–three things we can absolutely get behind and definitely the reason why her skin is flawless.
Black soap originated in Ghana. This vegetable-based soap has been used to gently cleanse the hair and skin for centuries. It typically contains plantain peels (lots of antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin C), cocoa pods (full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits), palm oil (unrefined, of course; full of vitamin E and fatty acids), and shea butter (lots of fatty acids and helps repair skin damage). Overall, it’s pretty powerful stuff that a few people I know swear by to keep their skin clear. Hemp oil is great for managing sebum production in the skin. Overactive oil production can lead to some pretty painful pimples. It’s also great for balancing out the skin since over dried skin starts to overcompensate for the lack of moisture. Hemp oil also has omega-6 fatty acids, which has anti-inflammatory properties. Mauna honey is a very special kind of honey that comes from only one place in the world: New Zealand. It’s raw honey that’s full of enzymes and vitamins B and C. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help heal breakouts and soothe redness. Manuka honey also helps pull bacteria out of the skin to prevent future breakouts. Since it’s honey that means it’s a humectant so it draws and locks in moisture. This routine is an absolute dream for acne-prone skin. We highly recommend!
Singer, fashion icon, entrepreneur, philanthropist, Rihanna can really do anything. Her secret for keeping her skin clear? No alcohol, lots of water. A simple fix but a good one! Hydration is the most important part of keeping your skin clear; alcohol dehydrates you. It also makes your face look puffy, splotchy and makes wrinkles more obvious. Water is the nectar of the gods, so it’s really all you need to flush out your system and get your skin back on track! A good skin care routine, too, but water really is the foundation of it all.
